Hub City Writers Project welcomes new staff

August 9th 2019

Hub City Press gave a warm welcome to two new full-time employees this summer. Events and Marketing Manager Rebecca Arrowsmith began her position in August. Outreach Coordinator Leslie Sainz, who was a Hub City Writer in Residence in Fall 2017, will begin in this brand new role at the organization in September.

Rebecca Arrowsmith is returning to Spartanburg after a decade-long stint in Georgia. She attended the Savannah College of Art and Design, and began a writing career in Atlanta. Rebecca brings experience in filmmaking, literary journalism, media, essay, story and news writing with her to the Hub City Writers Project and Bookshop. “I feel lucky to come home and work in an environment that brings writers and literature lovers together,” she says. “Composition is collaborative even if the physical act of writing/art is done alone. Good work is often born of great community.” She will be filling Ashley Sand’s position as Events and Marketing Manager.

Leslie Sainz received her BA in Professional & Creative Writing from Carnegie Mellon University, and her MFA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. A National Poetry Series Finalist, she was the Fall 2017 Writer-in-Residence at the Hub City Writers Project, and has received fellowships and scholarships from CantoMundo, The Miami Writer’s Institute, and The Adroit Journal. Most recently, she was a 2018-2019 Stadler Fellow at Bucknell University. “I’m overjoyed to be returning to Spartanburg,” Leslie says, “a town that nourished my writing like no other and rewarded me with great friends who are similarly passionate about community outreach, literacy advocacy, and the arts. As Outreach Manager, I look forward to coordinating and implementing programming that diversifies the reach of an organization that already does so much for so many. It’s an honor to serve the Hub City Writers Project in this way.”
