Hub City to publish book to celebrate 80 years of Wade's Restaurant

November 11th 2025

Hub City Press is pleased to announce the publication of a book to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Wade’s Restaurant, a 2024 James Beard America's Classics Award winner and iconic Spartanburg landmark.

This hardcover, full color book will feature stories, photographs, and even some recipes from Wade’s Restaurant's 80-year history, collected by Betsy Teter and the family members who still run the restaurant today. It will be published in the fall of 2027. Preorders for copies will open next year.

From its founding 1947 by Wade and Betty Lindsey in the original location on South Pine Street, Wade’s has remained a classic local favorite as it has witnessed Spartanburg grow and change. The restaurant itself has evolved over the years, from its beginnings as a small grocery store with a lunch counter, then diner with a drive-in with curb hops, and finally a family-forward meat n’ three. Wade “Hamp” Jr and Carole Lindsey Miller, have been running the restaurant since 1977, now located on North Pine Street, along with the third generation, Hamp’s children Wade III and Anna.

Quote from Hamp

“Wade’s is part of Spartanburg’s soul,” said Meg Reid, publisher of Hub City Press. “We’re thrilled to help tell this story and honor the Lindsey family’s legacy in book form and celebrate both the restaurant and the community it’s nourished for eight decades.”
