Hub City Press is proud to announce it will publish Drew Buxton's debut novel DAYTONA TEDDY RIGGS in fall 2026.
Daytona Teddy Riggs is the story of a has-been high school football star's quest to win the World’s Strongest Man competition. Set in mid-nineties South Texas, Buxton's debut novel is an offbeat portrayal of mental illness in the pre-internet South, at once an outrageous comedy, a biting satire of the self-help industry, and an examination of how privilege, masculinity, and mental illness interact. What follows is Daytona's struggle to discover who he is beneath all the muscles.
Drew Buxton is a writer from Texas. His short story collection So Much Heart won the Texas Institute of Letters' Sergio Troncoso Award for Best First Book of Fiction. His work has been featured in Southwest Review, The Drift, Joyland, Archway Editions Journal, Electric Literature, and Vice among other publications. Daytona Teddy Riggs is his first novel.
