SPARTANBURG, S.C.— Hub City Press is proud to announce Hub City Shorts, a new design-forward, collectible series of small-format books celebrating the short form across the South. Edited by Mesha Maren, Gabriel Bump, and M. Randal O’Wain, the series will spotlight both rising and established writers whose work captures the breadth and vitality of contemporary Southern literature.
Hub City Shorts will feature a curated mix of new and reprinted short stories, novellas, and essays, alongside archival finds that connect today’s voices to the region’s literary past. Hub City Shorts will feature roughly six stories from six writers, starting with South Carolina and Mississippi, for publication in 2027. The editors will accept submissions from emerging writers from South Carolina and Mississippi for inclusion in these editions. Submissions will open on November 15.
"We're three weirdos who love reading. We're grateful Hub City Press has allowed us the opportunity to force our love onto the world. Southern Literature has given us endless joy and power. We look forward to discovering new voices, reminding you of past treasures, and celebrating the established champions of the world's best literary community," said Gabriel Bump, speaking for the editorial team.
“Hub City Shorts embodies our mission to champion Southern writers while experimenting with new publishing models. We want to create a space where readers can experience the breadth of contemporary southern literature in one sitting—where an emerging writer from a small town might appear beside a national name, and where each book becomes a small, beautiful artifact of place,” said Meg Reid, publisher of Hub City Press.
With its distinctive design and collectible format, Hub City Shorts offers readers an elegant, portable way to experience the South’s most compelling stories—both new and rediscovered.
