About the Book

Retired detective Paul Green offers a vivid, first-person look into small-town law enforcement across several decades. Paul served with Greer's fire and police departments for nearly thirty years, and his recollections aren’t just about crime and justice; they’re about community. Told with humor, grit, and remarkable honesty, Paul's stories paint a picture of a time when officers knew everyone in town, local disputes spilled into citywide drama, and law enforcement required not only courage but creativity, empathy, and a good sense of humor. From lighthearted tales of mischievous mules to tense moments of armed standoffs, these memories give readers a deeply human perspective on both the routine and the remarkable.

About the Authors

Paul Green served with the Greer police and fire departments for nearly three decades, becoming Greer’s first Identification Officer.  Known for his quick wit, steady presence, and deep familiarity with the people he served, Paul handled everything from bar fights to national murder cases.  He later became Chief of Police in Liberty, South Carolina and retired from that position in 1992.

Cora Newcomb is a retired college professor, professional storyteller, and a tour guide at the Greer Heritage Museum.  Her adventurous spirit and deep empathy make her the ideal partner for preserving Paul’s legacy and the stories that help define Greer’s past.
