following classes for beginning and experienced writers are offered by The
Writers' Workshop. Registration is in advance since class size is limited,

Asheville:
March
15: Writing Your Memoirs with Karen Ackerson
The class will
receive information on writing memoirs - collecting data, creating a timeline,
and focusing on personal epiphanies. Excerpts from award-winning memoirs will
be discussed, and in-class writing exercises will help students identify
memorable life events. Three pages may be brought to the class for review by
Ackerson, who has edited and revised memoirs with The Renbourne Agency for 18
years.
Saturday,
10-4 pm. $75/$70 members.
March 22: Writing and Publishing Magazine Articles
with Ed Schubert
Writers
of fiction and non-fiction articles will learn how to prepare their work,
writing the cover and query letter, where to submit articles, and more.
In-class writing exercises will also be given. Schubert is editor
of Orson Scott Card's science fiction magazine, InterGalactic Medicine Show,
Diversity Woman Magazine, and N.C. Career Network Magazine. Meets
Saturday, 11-5 pm. $75/$70 members.

Charlotte:
March 22: Screenwriting
Workshop with Nathan Ross Freeman
Aspiring
scriptwriters will learn elements of the screenplay such as format,
characterization, dialogue, theme, conflict, and resolution. Three pages of
work or a synopsis may be brought to the class for review. Freeman teaches
writing at U.N.C.-Charlotte. His screenplays include Mr. Bones, Hannah
Elias, Geist, and GEM. Meets at the JCC on Providence Road on
Saturday, 12:30-5:30 pm. $75/$70 members.
