Three New Books for the Holidays

There's something for everyone this year, as the Hub City Writers Project releases a Christmas feast of new books by Spartanburg authors.

Already in stores, Cottonwood Trail: Glimpses of Wildness in the Heart of Spartanburg, is a full-color coffee table book with more than 100 photographic images of the flora and fauna of the Edwin M. Griffin Nature Preserve on Spartanburg's eastside. Author Thomas Webster, the 2005 Teacher of the Year in Spartanburg County District 6, contributes nature essays to the book, and Wofford College professors G.R. Davis and Peter Schmunk provide the photography. It is available in hardback for $24.95.

Debuting this week is Comfort & Joy, the much anticipated book of Christmas stories by beloved Spartanburg pastor Kirk H. Neely. This cozy collection of nine holiday stories harkens back to O. Henry's "Gift of the Magi" and is a powerful reminder of why we celebrate the season of Christmas. Beautifully illustrated by June Neely Kern, Comfort & Joy is a book of unforgettable characters and images.

Please join Dr. Neely for a reading and signing Tuesday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. at the Spartanburg County Public Library. This colorful book, in paperback, sells for $19.95.

Finally, in early December keep your eyes open for Courageous Kate: A Daughter of the American Revolution by Sheila Ingle. This illustrated book about the life of Spartanburg County Revolutionary War heroine Kate Moore Barry is for young readers. It is illustrated by John Ingle and will retail for $11.95.
